Ultra Clean Systems awards three IAHCSMM 2021 scholarships

Rita the Reprocessor scholarship challenge winners display creativity in
adapting to disruptions caused by COVID-19

Oldsmar, FL—Ultra Clean Systems, a manufacturer of precision-made ultrasonic cleaning systems for surgical instruments, announced during International Sterile Processing Week the recipients of IAHCSMM 2021 scholarships from its fourth annual contest. The recipients were chosen from entries in Ultra Clean’s themed Rita the Reprocessor scholarship challenge (inspired by Rosie the Riveter), where sterile processing professionals were asked to describe how they adapted to challenges and disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The grand prizewinner is Toni Amorine of Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton, PA. Toni received a scholarship to IAHCSMM 2021, a one-year subscription to PROCESS magazine, her IAHCSMM membership was renewed for one year, and $500 in expense assistance. Runners-up Carla Cuer of United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia, NY, and Nicole Booth of Barrett Hospital and Healthcare in Dillon, MT, were awarded IAHCSMM 2021 scholarships, a one-year subscription to PROCESS magazine, and their IAHCSMM memberships were renewed for one year.

“There isn’t enough engagement for all the sterile processing professionals out there and with this year’s challenge, our readers have an outlet for being involved that is fun, engaging, and gives them a greater reason to be proud that they are keeping patients safe,” said Tom Overbey, director of marketing at Ultra Clean. “Sometimes it seems like a thankless job.”

Achievers: End Infection challenge displays creativity and dedication of
central service professionals

The recipients were chosen from entries in Ultra Clean’s themed Achievers: End Infection challenge (inspired by the Avengers movie franchise), where central service professionals were asked to describe how they helped end infection in their department.

The grand prizewinner is Melissa Albright of UnityPoint Health – Meriter in Madison, WI. Melissa received a scholarship to IAHCSMM 2020, a one-year subscription to PROCESS magazine, her IAHCSMM membership was renewed for one year, and $500 in expense assistance. Runners-up Sarah Cruz of MidState Medical Center in Meriden, CT, and Tetiana Sotnik of Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, OR, were awarded IAHCSMM 2020 scholarships, a one-year subscription to PROCESS magazine, and their IAHCSMM memberships were renewed for one year.
