Potential new antibiotic shows promise
Let others know...
Scientists from the University of Plymouth and the University of Manchester have researched the performance of epidermicin, the first in a new class of antibiotics, against an established treatment called mupirocin to gauge its effectiveness in fighting antibiotic-resistant bacteria. A single dose of epidermicin as effective as mupirocin administered twice daily for three days to eradicate MRSA from the nostrils of cotton rats. With antibiotic resistance being identified as a threat to global human health, this is welcome news.
